Vasectomy service

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic latest updates on all our services can be found here.

If you are considering having a Vasectomy procedure, there is lots of advice and information to help you decide if it is the right option for you here on the NHS website.

Our Vasectomy service is delivered by accredited clinicians from Richmond Medical Centre, a registered GP practice in Sheffield.

How do I arrange a Vasectomy?

If you are thinking of having a Vasectomy you should discuss this first with your GP. Your GP will then be able to refer you to our service. When we receive your referral we will contact you to arrange your first appointment for counselling/assessment.

All Vasectomies are carried out in the strictest of confidence typically over two appointments.

  • A counselling /assessment appointment (lasting 30 minutes)
  • The procedure appointment (lasting up to one hour)

When you attend the first appointment you will then be able to book an appointment for your procedure. There must be a minimum of two weeks between the two appointments.

This service is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) which is the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England. The procedure is performed by Dr Maden.

Dr Maden qualified from Leeds in 2001, he spent time in hospital medicine then moved to General Practice and joined Richmond Medical Centre in 2008. His interests lie in musculoskeletal medicine (joint injections), dermatology / minor surgery,  vasectomies and elderly care.

How do I arrange a Vasectomy?

If you are thinking of having a Vasectomy you should discuss this first with your GP. Your GP will then be able to refer you to our service.

When we receive your referral we will contact you to arrange the first appointment at a convenient time to you. We offer appointments on Thursday mornings from as early as 7am. This appointment will take 30 minutes and will be split between the triaging nurse and the GP performing the procedure.  If you are happy to go ahead with the procedure, you will be able to make the second appointment before you leave. All our procedure appointments are offered on Friday afternoons.

Your feedback is important to us!

We are committed to delivering a quality service and welcome your feedback and suggestions on how we can continue to improve the service and the experience of all patients. Find out more about how to provide feedback here.

You can also view details about our service on the NHS choices website.
